Regarding Hayes Brown’s Aug. 13 opinion column, “Trump is corruptly turning the White House into his billion-dollar dream home”:

Since Donald Trump became president, our country has suffered seemingly unending expenses, as this story documents at least with respect to White House renovations.

At 78 years of age, I am befuddled at how Trump was elected president not just once, but twice. Nor do I understand the lack of congressional leadership on the part of the Republican Party today.

I am left wondering how the stains of Trump’s self-indulgent, imperialist actions can ever be erased from our national life. Please may there be a return to integrity, truth and future-thinking leaders who exude common sense for the whole country and its future.

To the editor:

When Trump finally leaves office, it will take some time to repair the damage he has done.

Trump’s atrocious mangling of the White House and its grounds will be an eyesore for years to come unless we restore this national treasure to its former state. Trump wants these edifices and the monuments he proposes to build to be part of his legacy in order to glorify his “achievements.”

Like many American taxpayers, I try to watch where my money goes. But I am totally behind any effort to erase his desecrations so that we won’t be reminded of how awful his time in office has been for our country. Erasing all traces of his time in office should be a priority regardless of cost.
