The House on Thursday voted by voice vote to endthe shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, after a record 2 1/2-month lapse in funding. The bill heads to President Donald Trump’s desk for signature before the shutdown is officially over.
After a monthslong stalemate, the House passed the Senate’s DHS funding bill that would fund most of the department – except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Protection.
The Senate passed the bill through unanimous consent on March 27. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told reporters Monday that the Senate-passed DHS bill has “some problematic language,” adding that it was “haphazardly drafted.”
But that “haphazardly drafted” version passed the House floor anyway.
