Nicolle Wallace slammed President Donald Trump on Tuesday’s “Deadline: White House” for what she called an “extraordinary act of deception” after new reporting from The Washington Post revealed the president secretly left an Air Force One jet when departing from Turkey last month in response to security threats from Iran.
“In covering a presidency that is, every single day, summed up by its unprecedented and unparalleled combination of callousness, incompetence and surrealness, Donald Trump and his administration have managed to outdo themselves, likely endangering national security, his own staff and the journalists whose job it is to cover all of them in the process,” the MS NOW host said.
According to the Post, the president boarded an Air Force One jet on July 8 following a NATO summit in Turkey but was transported before takeoff to a smaller military plane “via an airport catering truck typically used to load meals and other supplies preflight.” The extraordinary move was reportedly prompted by an assassination threat against Trump from the Iranian government.
Wallace said the president’s secret switch amounted to using his own White House staff and journalists as “decoys.”
The “Deadline: White House” host ripped into the president for misleading reporters about security concerns. After both planes landed safely in the United Kingdom, Trump reboarded Air Force One undetected and spoke to reporters, telling the press pool, “If I go, you go. Right?”
Wallace called the president’s dismissive response an “elaborate fabrication,” adding, “When he said it, he knew it wasn’t true, right? He had just been shuttled off the plane that the press he’s talking to right there were on. So when he says, ‘If you go, you go,’ he knows he’s lying.”
According to Wallace, Trump’s “extraordinary act of deception” was “the latest proof that he’s lost complete control of the war with Iran.”
