OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – One person has been taken into custody following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers responded to the 3000 block of SW 64th St. at around 3 a.m. regarding a disturbance.

Upon arrival, an officer found 45-year-old Jason Redshirt standing outside of a home. The officer tried to calm Redshirt down, but he responded by cursing and yelling at the officer.

Officials say Redshirt then tried to approach the officer when he was pepper prayed. After being pepper sprayed, Redshirt retreated to a trailer loaded with wood. There were also bricks lying nearby. He began throwing the wood and bricks at the officer leading the officer to fire his weapon.

“During that contact, that subject started assaulting the officer. He attacked the officer with boards and bricks. At which time the officer drew his firearm, discharging a firearm, striking that person,” said Capt. Valerie Littlejohn, OKCPD.

Redshirt was taken to a nearby hospital. He’s facing charges including Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Police Officer.

The officer sustained minor injuries during the incident.
