A plane has been reported missing while en route to a New Mexico airport while a fire has been reported in a nearby area, local officials said.

The plane went missing while heading to Sierra Blanca Regional Airport in Lincoln County, about 180 miles south of Albuquerque, Lincoln County Manager Jason Burns said on Thursday. It was not immediately clear how many people were on board.

Meanwhile, Lincoln County officials are responding to reports of a fire in the nearby Capitan Mountain area, Burns said.
