MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough blasted members of the Democratic Party, labeling them “whiners” for “melting down” over a string of successes for left-wing candidates in recent primary elections. On Tuesday’s “Morning Joe,” Scarborough advised that, ahead of the midterm elections, Democrats would be wise to remember the voters he argued are the “heart and soul” of the party: moderates.

“Democrats — oh my God, they’re such whiners,” the former Republican congressman said. “Yes, so there were a couple of left-wing people who said some crazy things that got elected, and now 98.8% of the rest of the Democratic Party is melting down and saying, ‘We’re doomed, we’re doomed.’”

“I just want to take everybody back to 2020,” Scarborough added, noting that during the primary process, the party’s eventual nominee, Joe Biden, suffered several early defeats and trailed more progressive candidates, such as Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.

“Leaders left and right, who I will not embarrass now, all saying, ‘The campaign’s over. He’s old. He’s pathetic. There’s no way he’s going to win,’” he said.

However, that tide changed in South Carolina, where voters “proved once again” that the “heart and soul of the Democratic Party is moderate,” Scarborough said.

He added: “And that’s why you had Joe Biden standing on a stage with 16 progressives — or people playing progressive in 2020 — and ended up crushing the field. … Please tell the whiners to stop whining, to get together, and get back to work.”

Although he urged Democrats on the national level to appeal to moderates, Scarborough said there was room in the party for progressives and moderates alike.

“I’m not saying shun anybody,” he said. “We need everybody if we want a Democratic Party and independents and others pushing back against anti-democratic forces.”

“There are going to be progressives winning progressive seats,” Scarborough added. “There are going to be moderates winning in places that require moderate candidates. And this shouldn’t be seen as radical; it shouldn’t be seen as an opportunity for people to try to tear the party apart so they can get a few more hits on their social media platforms.”
