Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* I’ll have more on this soon, but the Virginia Supreme Court struck down the redistricting vote that was poised to deliver four additional House seats to Democrats.
* In related news, Tennessee Republicans approved a new map Thursday that erases the state’s only majority-Black congressional district.
* Amid growing speculation about GOP efforts to get Sen. John Fetterman to switch parties, the Pennsylvania Democrat wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post explaining he has “no plans” to leave his party, adding, “I’d be a terrible Republican who still votes overwhelmingly with Democrats.”
* The latest NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found Democrats with a 10-point advantage over Republicans on the generic congressional ballot, 52% to 42%. Just as notably, the same survey found that Democrats are 8 points more likely than Republicans to say they are “very enthusiastic” to vote this year.
* Barack Obama this week endorsed Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin, both of whom are running for the Georgia Supreme Court, which is an important race that hasn’t yet received a lot of attention.
* On March 4, Donald Trump said he would “soon” issue an endorsement in Texas’ Republican Senate primary, adding that he expected the other candidate to drop out of the race after failing to receive his support. On Thursday, more than two months later, a reporter asked whether he still intended to make an endorsement, and the president replied he would make a decision “maybe relatively soon.”
* And in California’s gubernatorial race, Republican Chad Bianco came under fire at a debate this week over his ties to the Oath Keepers, an extremist paramilitary organization that played a key role on Jan. 6. Bianco said he’s no longer a member, though he nevertheless encouraged people to read the radical group’s mission statement.
