The Justice Department is preparing to charge a man in the Boston area with making harassing phone calls to the wife of White House official Stephen Miller, despite skepticism from some prosecutors and FBI agents about the strength of the case, three people familiar with the matter told MS NOW.
Katie Miller, a pro-Trump podcaster and the wife of Stephen Miller, notified the FBI about harassing phone calls, who traced the phone number to a Boston-area man, two of the people said.
The FBI’s Boston office took over the investigation in cooperation with the US Attorney’s office in Massachusetts. Career prosecutors there have expressed doubts over whether they can prove a federal crime, said the sources, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly about a sensitive matter.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The news comes after two senior FBI counter terrorism supervisors in the Washington Field Office were demoted after expressing concerns about the case. The FBI says that decision was made by the head of the Washington Field Office.
