PIEDMONT, Okla. (KFOR) — The City of Piedmont on Wednesday declared an emergency road closure.
Mustang Road between 178th and 192nd is closed at approximately the 1/2 mile section line indefinitely.
“This could be dangerous, really dangerous,” said Maureen Dryden, resident.
Dryden lives on the road and says she’s happy to see it being fixed.
“Just the amount of rain that’s happened recently through this last season, it’s taking its toll,” said Josh Williams, city manager.

The edge of the roadway is dropping off, and it’s starting to collapse in the middle.
“With that, the engineer’s recommendation based on the structural stability of it, is what caused the safety concern and the closure,” said Williams.
In the meantime, drivers have a couple of options if they usually take this road.
“They could push to the east and go to Sarah Road and then go north, or they can come to Piedmont Road and go north from there as an alternate route,” said Williams.
Williams understands this closure may be an inconvenience for some.
“But their safety is our number one concern, and so just to be prudent as the city, closing the road was the best decision we can make,” said Williams.
The City is working to obtain bids, and then they’ll have a better timeline of how long the road will be closed.
Williams is hoping it won’t take longer than a month.
Updates will be posted here.
