Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason resigned Monday after pleading no contest to an embezzlement charge tied to the misuse of campaign and county funds.
A plea deal allows Amason to avoid jail time, reduced the number of charges against him, and requires him to pay $10,000 in restitution to a charity of his choice.
