EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — Edmond Police rushed to the Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond after a woman frantically called for help, claiming she was being attacked by her son in the parking lot.
The incident happened on September 19.
“Please get the police here immediately, he’s trying to steal my car, he set my hair on fire!” said the woman on a 911 call.
The 74-year-old told dispatchers her 48-year-old son, Donald Chadwell, was pulling her hair and slamming her head into the dashboard of her car in the parking lot of the country club.
A witness also dialed 911 after seeing things unfold, urging officers to get to the country club as soon as possible.
“There’s a car in front of me, and a woman is screaming, and a man is like assaulting her, and she’s screaming for help,” the man said.
The witness also describes seeing the woman in a chokehold prior to police arriving on the scene.
He said, “Oh gosh, now he’s beating her up. I don’t know what he’s doing, ok, you’ve got to hurry up.”
A police report says authorities found the victim visibly shaken with a chipped tooth. Officers also mentioned seeing a clump of the woman’s hair on the passenger side seat.
Once police caught up with Chadwell, he told officers his mother had stolen his car.
The woman explained she was trying to prevent him from drinking and driving.
As to claims he was trying to burn her hair, police say Chadwell was holding a blue lighter in his hand.
In body camera video, Chadwell told police, “I’m just trying to get to work from A to B, that’s it. Just trying to go to work. That’s all I’m trying to do. She stole the car that I had.”
Edmond Police arrested Chadwell for the domestic incident. He has not posted bond. Authorities say state charges will be filed against him.
