OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — It’s now a little easier for families to fly out of Will Rogers International Airport. They have two new programs that ease security lines, especially during peak hours.

So far this month, more than 190,000 passengers have passed through the security checkpoints at Will Rogers International Airport, with a record 9,700 on a single day.

Between checking bags and standing in security lines, it can cause gridlock. So, TSA is trying to ease the stress for travelers.

They’re now rolling out the “Families on the Fly” program.

“We know the complications that families have while they travel. It’s not easy. It can be stressful, especially if you have to watch out for your children, your luggage, strollers, everything else,” said Gervais Joubert, TSA Regional Spokesman.

The program will be offered during peak security times in the early morning, between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.

“They’ll enter through the general lane. But we have our officers on a lookout for families during our peak times,” said Joubert.

Then, parents flying with children 12 and under will be guided through a separate lane.

“It takes the families out of the regular lane, so those regular lanes will be faster because, it does take a little bit more time to process a family,” said Joubert.

Another new program that’s offered is for the military called “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease.”

This allows military members to go through their own security line and sign up for free pre-check. Military spouses can get a $25 enrollment discount for pre-check.

“If they’re traveling, they don’t have to be in uniform. They can show up and go into the military lane with their families,” said Joubert.

Both of these programs are geared to help clear up long security lines.

Other airports with the family security line are Orlando International Airport, John Wayne Airport in California, and Salt Lake City International Airport.
